Orbus Newcomers - A Specialty Chapter

In keeping with our mandate to help businesses and entrepreneurs grow, we recognize that it is much harder for new business owners and newcomers to grow connections and their businesses.

For that reason we have our specialty newcomers chapters. If you have moved to a new city and have just started your business or services this will be the chapter for you.

If you moved from another country this is even more difficult to understand and do business successfully in Canada as you step into an entirely new society and culture.

These chapters also have experienced entrepreneurs and professionals who can give new business owners and newcomers guidance and mentorship. So you are not alone and they benefit with making potential new clients and customers.

For these reasons we have our new Newcomers' Specialty Chapter. These chapters support new businesses and newcomers business immigrants in each city. We want to help all entrepreneurs and business owners that may not yet be familiar their new city  to understand the Canadian method of conducting business and meet more established businesses and professionals.

Frequently Asked Questions for our newcomers chapter

This specialty Chapter aims to fulfill various objectives, including:

  • Providing opportunities for newcomers to network with established entrepreneurs;
  • Creating mutually-beneficial learning and mentorship experiences between newcomers and long-standing industry experts;
  • Exploring and sharing ideas with other newcomers; and
  • Gaining practical knowledge and experience on the local ways of conducting business and living.

Members include newcomers, other local entrepreneurs, and individual mentors that wish to network, build real connections, and help newcomers find their way into the local business landscape.

Unlike other Orbus Chapters, this Newcomers' Chapter holds no industry exclusivity for newcomers. Hence, there may be multiple members from a single area of business that can be part of this unique Chapter. However, regular Orbus chapters may join as affiliate members of this chapter but would be limited to 3 per industry.

Members will:

  • Learn from each other. Successful local entrepreneurs and newcomers will share their experiences and inspire other members.
  • Sell and promote. Newcomers will have the chance to dip their feet in the waters, 'pitching' their ideas and their business proposals to others, for valuable feedback.
  • Gain new connections, thus new customers. The Chapter is open to all newcomers, whether in business, in profession, moving into a new city or simply having recently arrived in Canada. This extended network can propel the business forward.
  • Monthly Meetings or Events. There will be monthly events/meetings and some special events throughout the year to let you build and grow.
  • Online and In Person Networking/Mentorship. All members are encouraged to increase their networking with each other and to seek Mentorship with local entrepreneur members or with each other.

We want to keep our annual membership low for this specialty chapter as new businesses and newcomers funds are usually tighter as startups.

  • Annual Membership Fee. There is an annual membership fee for this specialty chapter which covers the administrative support, social media and online marketing for the group and organizational support for the chapter. There may be charges for special events to cover the costs of such events.
  • Newcomers Member Fee. To support our newcomers there is a  introductory period to August 31, 2025 where you can join for a nominal annual fee of $100. After the introductory period (August 31, 2025) the annual fee will be $150 annually (until you reach 3 years in business). After 3 years in business your encouraged to join or be a member of regular chapter of Orbus and those fees would apply.
  • Local Entrepreneurs Specialty Member Fee.  The Chapter is open to all local entrepreneurs and the annual fee is $200 annually. If you are an existing Orbus Chapter Member (in good standing) or a Member of another Orbus specialty network (in good standing) your annual fee is $100 annually to join the Newcomers' Chapter.
